Mammillaria pringlei
Native to central Mexico, from Querétaro to Veracruz and Mexico State, this cactus grows in desert and dry shrubland habitats. Its rounded stems become cylindrical with age and can reach about 16 inches tall, sometimes branching. Stout yellow central spines and finer radial spines cover the raised tubercles, while rose-purple flowers appear near the stem tops. It can be propagated from seed or offsets. Photographed in Florida.
