Malvaviscus (species unidentified)
Native to tropical and subtropical America, plants in this genus belong to the mallow family and commonly grow as woody shrubs. Their characteristic flowers have overlapping petals that remain rolled together rather than opening into a flat face. A long central column bearing the stamens projects beyond the petals. The fleshy fruits eventually dry and separate into five sections, each containing a single seed. Photographed in Colombia.
