Malva assurgentiflora
Native to California’s Channel Islands, this woody shrub grows about 3 to 13 feet tall, with erect or spreading stems. Large pink flowers have conspicuous dark veins, and their petals may curve back as they age. It can flower throughout the year. Its natural habitats include coastal bluffs. It tolerates salt-laden coastal winds and is planted as a windbreak in California. Photographed in Colombia.
