Majidea zanguebarica (subspecies unidentified)
Native to tropical Africa, this shrub or tree grows naturally from southeastern Kenya to eastern Tanzania, including Zanzibar, in seasonally dry tropical habitats. It has shiny compound leaves and clusters of small, fragrant green and red flowers. Its three-lobed fruits split open to reveal a bright red interior contrasting with velvety blue-black seeds. Grown as an ornamental tree, it can be propagated from seed or by layering. Photographed in Florida.
