Mahonia confusa 'Narihira'
Of garden origin from a shrub native to China, this evergreen cultivar belongs to the barberry family. It produces clusters of yellow flowers above pinnate foliage with narrow leaflets. Its wild relatives grow in forests, thickets, stream margins and rocky ground. Related wild plants bear blue or reddish-purple berries after flowering. Photographed in Florida.
