Magnolia figo
Native to southeastern China, this evergreen shrub is commonly called banana shrub because of the strong fruity fragrance of its flowers. It usually grows about six to ten feet tall, developing a dense, upright to rounded habit, though older plants may grow taller. Cream to yellow, cup-shaped flowers appear in spring and may be tinged with purple. Photographed in Colombia.
