Magdalena Beaches Colombia
The stretch of coastline between the Magdalena River delta and the CiĆ©naga Grande de Santa Marta is a undeveloped, narrow coastal strip that runs along Colombiaās Caribbean coast west of CiĆ©naga and east of Barranquilla. This area is sometimes referred to locally as the Costa de Puebloviejo or playas de CiĆ©naga, but it does not have a widely recognized or official name.
These beaches are rarely visited. To the south, the CiĆ©naga Grande de Santa Marta, Colombia’s largest coastal lagoon and a key Ramsar wetland. Along the coastal highway, rising sea levels have led to the die-off of vegetation on both the ocean and lagoon sides.
