Lysiloma sabicu
Native from the Bahamas to Hispaniola, this tropical tree grows in seasonally dry forests and scrub. It can reach about 40 feet tall, with peeling gray-brown bark and feathery compound leaves. Rounded flower heads carry numerous showy, greenish-white stamens. Its strong, dense wood is valued for carving, furniture, house trim, and boat building. Photographed in Florida.
