Lycoseris triplinervia

Native from Panama to Venezuela, this climbing shrub or liana grows in seasonally dry tropical habitats. It belongs to the sunflower family, Asteraceae, and produces conspicuous orange flower heads. In Colombia it is recorded across the Andes, Caribbean plains, Orinoquia, and Pacific regions, in habitats including forest, woodland, savanna, and shrubland. Male and female flower heads grow on separate plants. The small dry fruits carry a tuft of pale bristles. Photographed in Colombia.
