Lycaste × niesseniae

Native to Colombia, this natural orchid hybrid comes from Lycaste occulta and Lycaste schilleriana. It grows on trees in wet tropical habitats. Its swollen stems, called pseudobulbs, store water and nutrients and support pleated leaves. Single flowers develop on stalks arising at the base. Photographed in Quindio, Colombia.
