Ludisia discolor
Native to southern China and Southeast Asia, this terrestrial perennial orchid grows in moist forest habitats. Its fleshy stems carry velvety leaves with contrasting pale veins and reddish undersides. Small, fragrant white flowers with yellow centres form upright clusters on long flowering stems. It is grown indoors and in terrariums for its foliage as well as its flowers. Stem cuttings can be rooted in water to produce new plants. Photographed in Colombia.
