Linochilus rupestris has clusters of white narrow rayed flower heads with brown centers above slender hairy leaves

Linochilus rupestris (Puscalilla)

Native to the Andes of Colombia and Ecuador, this compact shrub inhabits high mountain landscapes. In Colombia, it grows at about 10,500 to 14,800 feet. It generally reaches three to seven feet tall and branches sparingly. Woolly hairs cover the terminal branches and the undersides of its narrow, lance-shaped leaves, while long white hairs also occur above. Groups of flower heads have white to yellow marginal florets. Plants grow scattered among hillside scrub in the pƔramo. Photographed in Colombia.
