Lilium hybridum
Of garden origin from crosses among wild lily species, this bulbous perennial produces upright stems topped by large, colourful flowers. Hybrid lilies include bowl-shaped, trumpet-shaped, and recurved forms, with colours ranging from white and yellow to orange, pink, and red. Each flower has six petal-like segments and prominent stamens. All parts, including the pollen, are highly poisonous to cats and can cause fatal kidney failure. Photographed in Florida.
