Lilium Asiatic hybrid flowers with plum-red petals, dark anthers and water droplets

Lilium Asiatic Hybrids

Developed through crosses between Lilium species, Asiatic hybrid lilies are deciduous, bulbous perennials grown in gardens and for cut flowers. They belong to a horticultural group rather than a single wild species. Their flowers range from bowl-shaped to strongly recurved forms and occur in pastel shades as well as vivid yellow, orange, pink and red. Most cultivars have little or no fragrance. In temperate gardens, they usually flower in early to midsummer. All parts, including the pollen, are highly poisonous to cats and can cause fatal kidney failure. Photographed in Colombia.
