Libidibia punctata
Native to Colombia and Venezuela, it is a tree of seasonally dry tropical habitats, including the Caribbean lowlands. Its yellow flowers develop into woody, dark brown to black pods that remain closed at maturity. Smooth bark sheds in woody plates, producing a distinctive patchwork on the trunk. The species is listed as Vulnerable in Colombia’s national plant assessment, highlighting its conservation importance in dry forests. Photographed in Atlantico, Colombia.
