Leucothrinax morrisii
Native from the Florida Keys through several Caribbean islands, it is a small fan palm of coastal scrub, limestone ground, and other exposed tropical habitats. The slender trunk supports a rounded crown of divided, nearly circular leaves. Branched inflorescences emerge among the leaves and carry many small pale flowers followed by rounded fruits. It tolerates drought and salt spray. The foliage supports monk skipper caterpillars, and the palm provides food and nesting sites for birds. It is listed as endangered in Florida. Photographed in Florida.
