Leucanthemum maximum (Pyrenean Daisy)
Native from northwestern Spain to the Pyrenees, this perennial herb produces upright stems with large, solitary flower heads. White ray flowers surround a central disk of small yellow florets. Broad basal leaves have stalks and usually toothed margins, while the leaves higher on the stem become narrower. Small dry fruits develop after flowering. The species grows in temperate conditions and is cultivated ornamentally. Beyond its native range, escaped plants occur in disturbed ground, meadows, and clearings, though some populations are short-lived. Photographed in Colombia.
