Lavandula angustifolia (English Lavender)
Native to parts of the Mediterranean region, this aromatic perennial has a low, shrubby form. Its narrow, silvery leaves are covered with soft hairs, and blue to purple, two-lipped flowers grow in small groups along upright spikes. Tiny dry nutlets develop after flowering. The plant is cultivated for fragrant flowers and foliage, including use in perfumes, potpourri, and cooking. It attracts butterflies and other pollinators. Stem cuttings are used for propagation. Photographed in Colombia.
