Lasaia is a genus of Neotropical metalmark butterflies. Several species have dark wings overlaid with structural blue, violet, or turquoise coloration that changes with the angle of light, while females may be less intensely colored. Closely related species can have similar patterns, and the photographed butterfly is therefore identified only to genus.

Adults are small, active butterflies often seen resting on leaves with the wings spread. Metalmarks can also visit flowers, damp soil, or mineral-rich surfaces, depending on species and sex. The purple-blue dorsal color in this individual comes from microscopic wing scales rather than a uniform pigment, producing the reflective appearance visible in the photograph.
