Lampranthus aurantiacus has a vivid orange flower with many narrow petals radiating around a yellow central disk

Lampranthus aurantiacus (Orange Ice Plant)

Native to South Africa, this succulent forms a low, woody, evergreen shrub with fleshy foliage and conspicuous orange flowers. It grows in sandy ground and on sandstone slopes in the Western Cape, including coastal districts. The many narrow flower petals spread around a central group of stamens, producing the bright display associated with cultivated orange ice plants. Its compact growth and striking flowers make it suitable for ornamental succulent collections. It has been introduced beyond its native range. Photographed in Colombia.
