Ladenbergia oblongifolia
Native to Bolivia, northern Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela, this tree grows in moist tropical forests. It bears fragrant white flowers in branching clusters at the ends of its stems. Its elongated capsules split into two valves and release numerous flattened seeds. Its pinkish wood has been used for cabinetmaking. It is used as a shade tree in coffee farms, where its flowers attract nectar-seeking insects and birds. It can be propagated from seeds or cuttings. Photographed in Chocó, Colombia.
