Native to Madagascar, this woody mallow grows as a shrub about six to thirteen feet tall. Its solitary flowers develop beside the leaves and have yellow petals with dark red bases surrounding a short central column of stamens. The rounded to oval foliage varies in size and may be shallowly lobed, with prominent veins beneath. Hairy, rounded capsules follow the flowers.
