Koelreuteria paniculata (Golden Rain Tree)
Native to eastern Asia, this deciduous ornamental tree grows about 30 to 40 feet tall, with a rounded crown and spreading branches. Its compound leaves have several toothed or lobed leaflets and may turn yellow in autumn. Large branched clusters of yellow flowers develop in summer, with red markings near their centers. Bees visit the flowers for nectar. Distinctive papery, three-sided seed capsules follow the flowers and become tan as they mature. The species tolerates varied soils, heat, drought, and urban conditions and is widely planted beyond its native range. It reseeds readily and has become invasive in Missouri. Photographed in Florida.
