Kalanchoe pinnata (Life Plant)
Native to Madagascar, this perennial succulent has smooth, glossy, fleshy leaves. Lower leaves are simple, while upper leaves may be divided into three to seven leaflets. Small plantlets develop along the scalloped leaf margins and can establish new plants after falling to the ground. Large, stalked flower clusters carry hanging, bell-shaped blossoms in cream, pink, and red tones. Numerous seeds develop in thin-walled fruits surrounded by persistent flower parts. It is widely cultivated and has become invasive in central and southern Florida. All parts are poisonous to people and pets if eaten. Photographed in Colombia.
