Justicia croceochlamys

Native to southeastern Colombia, it is a subshrub of humid tropical habitats, with records from the Amazon region, Guiana Shield and SerranĂa de La Macarena. It is cultivated as an ornamental for white tubular flowers surrounded by fine yellow bracts and sepals. Individual flowers last only a few days, while the yellow structures remain fresh for weeks. Its capsules open forcefully to disperse seeds. It attracts butterflies. It can be propagated from stem cuttings. Photographed in QuindĂo, Colombia.
