Justicia aurea
Native from Mexico through Central America, this plant is a shrub of humid tropical habitats. In Costa Rica, it grows in forest understories, secondary forests, river margins and roadside thickets. Its golden-yellow tubular flowers form tall terminal plumes above the foliage. New growth supports successive flower clusters. Photographed in Villeta, Colombia.
