Jacobaea maritima (Dusty Miller)
Native to the western and central Mediterranean, this evergreen perennial subshrub is grown chiefly for its silvery foliage. Both surfaces of its leaves are covered in dense white woolly hairs. Young leaves are only lightly lobed, while mature blades become deeply divided. Bright yellow flower heads rise above the foliage in clusters. The plant is often grown as an annual bedding subject, although it can persist in suitable climates. All parts are poisonous if eaten and can damage the liver. Contact can cause minor skin irritation. Photographed in Colombia.
