Ipomoea plummerae (Huachuca Mountain Morning Glory)

This perennial vine has a tuberous root and smooth stems that commonly trail along the ground, sometimes rising or twining near their tips. Leaves are deeply divided into slender lobes, or may be wedge-shaped with several teeth toward the tip. Purple to lavender flowers form broad funnels on smooth stalks. Rounded seed capsules follow flowering. The species occurs in parts of the southwestern United States, Mexico, and South America. It grows on rocky slopes and open woodland ground, including pinyon and juniper habitats. Photographed in Colombia.
