Impatiens hawkeri (New Guinea Impatiens)
Native to New Guinea and the Solomon Islands, it is a tender tropical plant widely cultivated for its flowers. Garden cultivars and hybrids are grown as annual bedding, in containers and as houseplants, with some flowering throughout the year indoors. The plants have succulent stems and spurred flowers, and some cultivated forms have variegated or reddish-purple foliage. Unlike susceptible cultivars of Impatiens walleriana, New Guinea impatiens cultivars are not affected by impatiens downy mildew. Photographed in Armenia, Colombia.
