Hypericum × hidcoteense (Hidcote St. John’s Wort)
This cultivated hybrid of St. John’s wort forms a bushy evergreen or semi-evergreen shrub with dark green, lance-shaped leaves. Large, golden yellow flowers have broad, cup-shaped petals and conspicuous stamens with reddish to orange anthers. Flowers continue through summer and into early autumn. The hybrid involves Hypericum addingtonii, Hypericum calycinum, and Hypericum hookerianum. It is grown in mixed borders, grouped plantings, and low hedges, favoring sun or partial shade with moist, freely draining soil. Summer cuttings are used to propagate garden plants. Photographed in Florida.
