Hymenocallis littoralis (Spider Lily)
Native from Mexico through Central America to northern Peru and Brazil, this plant is a bulbous perennial of wet tropical habitats. Its fragrant white flowers have a central cup and long, narrow, spreading tepals. The flowers are carried in clusters above strap-shaped leaves on thick, flattened stems. Cultivated for its flowers and foliage, the species has been introduced widely across tropical Africa, Asia and Pacific islands. Photographed in Cartagena, Colombia.
