Originating from the coastal regions of Latin America, this species is also referred to as the Beach Spider Lily. It's a tender bulbous perennial that showcases spectacular white flowers, boasting a central cup surrounded by six long, slender petals, often likened to giant white spiders. These blooms carry a sweet vanilla scent, enhancing its appeal. It thrives in wet conditions, and requires protection from cold winters, making it well-suited for tropical climates. It exhibits anti-Candida, antioxidant, cytotoxic, and wound healing activities, with its roots and rhizomes particularly utilized as nasal drops for snake bites. Moreover, the bulb of the plant is employed in wound healing applications. Several pharmacological compounds are contained within this plant, lending it antiviral, antiparasitic, anticancer, antibacterial, and additional wound healing attributes​.
