Hippeastrum × hybridum (Garden Amaryllis)

These garden amaryllis hybrids are bulbous herbaceous perennials selected for their large, colorful flowers. Tall flowering stalks rise above long green strap-shaped leaves and commonly carry clusters of two to five trumpet-shaped blooms. Cultivars offer white, pink, red, and orange flowers, often with contrasting markings. Landscape plants typically flower in spring, while potted bulbs can provide a seasonal indoor display. The plant is poisonous if eaten, especially the bulbs. Photographed in Florida.
