Hippeastrum correiense
Native to southeastern Brazil, this herbaceous perennial grows from a substantial underground bulb. A stout, leafless flowering stem supports large, trumpet-shaped flowers above the plant. The long trumpet remains relatively narrow at its opening. It is cultivated by bulb growers as an ornamental. The plant is poisonous if eaten, especially the bulbs. Photographed in Ecuador.
