Heterocentron glandulosum has clusters of white four-petaled flowers with pink curved stamens above deeply textured leaves

Heterocentron glandulosum

Native to Central America, this upright perennial herb or low shrub has densely hairy shoots and conspicuously veined leaves. Branched flowering clusters carry numerous small white flowers, sometimes tinged pink, above dark red to purple calyces. The flower stalks bear bristly, gland-tipped hairs. Prominent stamens curve outward from the petals and contribute to the delicate appearance of the clusters. It grows in mountain scrub and along trails, ranging from low herbs to taller shrubs. Photographed in Panama.
