Heliamphora heterodoxa × minor (Sun Pitcher Hybrid)
A cultivated hybrid of two Venezuelan sun pitcher species, this carnivorous perennial herb forms colonies of upright, urn-shaped leaves. Yellow-green pitchers develop bright red edges, midribs and prominent nectar spoons above their openings. A slit near the rim allows excess rainwater to escape while the hollow leaves retain water that traps insects. The hybrid is vigorous and regularly divides into new growth points. Separate flowering stalks carry pale bell-shaped blossoms above the pitchers, keeping the flowers distinct from the traps. Photographed in Florida.
