Gyrocarpus mocinoi
Native to tropical regions of the Americas, Africa, Asia, Australia, and the Pacific, this genus includes deciduous trees and occasional shrubs. The leaves have long stalks and may be undivided or have three to five lobes. Small flowers grow in branched clusters, with male and bisexual flowers on the same plant. The most distinctive feature is the fruit: two flower parts enlarge into long wings. These winged fruits spin as they fall, helping the wind carry them away from the parent tree. Photographed in Florida.
