Guzmania xanthobractea
Native to Ecuador, this herb grows on the ground and on trees in humid forests. Long, pointed, strap-shaped leaves form a rosette around a curved flower stalk. The loose, branching inflorescence carries ascending oval spikes with several flowers apiece. Yellow floral bracts overlap toward the tip of each spike, while the larger primary bracts are red and green. The tubular flowers have green petal lobes. Photographed in Colombia.
