Guzmania vanvolxemii

Native to Colombia and Ecuador, this stemless epiphytic herb grows in humid Andean forests. Numerous narrow, pointed leaves arch outward and downward from a rosette. A stout upright stalk supports a slender, branched flowering cluster with bright red axes. The larger primary bracts are red with green tips, while short upright side spikes carry closely packed flowers. Smaller red floral bracts sit below red or yellow sepals and pale yellow petals. Photographed in Florida.
