Guzmania remyi
Native to Ecuador, this stemless herb grows as an epiphyte in humid lowland and foothill forests. Its strap-shaped, pointed leaves form a funnel-shaped rosette and extend beyond the inflorescence. A slender, curved flower stalk remains largely hidden among the foliage. Overlapping elliptical bracts surround a dense, spindle-shaped spike of many flowers, with the tip of the spike remaining sterile. The bracts are rich pink, contrasting with the small white petals that emerge between them. Seed capsules develop after flowering. Photographed in Colombia.
