A branching Gurania tubulosa cluster holds rounded green buds and small red-orange flowers

Gurania tubulosa

Native from Costa Rica to Ecuador, this climbing vine grows in wet tropical vegetation. Clusters of small flowers have orange tubular calyces surrounding yellow petals, with pale anthers inside the male flowers. Like other members of the cucumber family, it climbs through surrounding vegetation using tendrils. In Colombia, it occurs in the Pacific and Andean regions, particularly Antioquia and Chocó, from low elevations to about 3,300 feet. Photographed in Colombia.
