Grewia occidentalis
Native to southern Africa, this shrub or small tree can scramble through thickets or grow upright in open woodland. It has finely toothed, oval leaves and star-shaped pink to mauve flowers with numerous stamens. Each fruit has four rounded lobes joined together and ripens reddish-brown to purple. The fruits are edible and attract birds, while the plant also supports butterflies. It is grown as a hedge, screen, or trained climber and can be propagated from seeds, cuttings, or layers. Photographed in Bogotá, Colombia.
