Gomphrena pulchella ‘Truffula Pink’ (Globe Amaranth)

A garden selection of a species native from Bolivia to Brazil and northern Argentina, this herb forms a densely branched, rounded mound of green foliage. Numerous bright pink flower heads rise on slender stalks and remain conspicuous as they age. The selection is grown as a long-flowering annual in many gardens, with established plants reaching about twenty-two to twenty-eight inches tall. Its lasting flower heads are used in fresh and dried arrangements. It has been cultivated widely beyond the native range of the species. Photographed in Colombia.
