Globba winitii (Dancing Ladies Ginger)
Native to Myanmar and northern Thailand, this perennial herb in the ginger family produces leafy shoots from underground rhizomes. Long, pointed leaves have heart-shaped bases and pale, waxy undersides. Pendant flower clusters carry conspicuous purple bracts, each enclosing several small yellow flowers. The delicate flowers have slender curved structures and projecting anthers that give them their dancing appearance. The foliage dies back during seasonal dormancy. Photographed in Colombia.
