Gesneria libanensis
Native to southeastern Cuba, this slow-growing subshrub grows on damp limestone rocks and cliffs. Woody stems may stand upright or hang from the rock surface. Rough, toothed leaves often have a strongly wrinkled surface. Small groups of scarlet to dark red flowers develop near the foliage. Their slender bases expand into swollen tubes before narrowing at the mouth. Rounded, ribbed capsules open at the top to release numerous tiny seeds. It can flower throughout the year. Photographed in Florida.
