Gazania × hybrida

Of garden origin from southern African Gazania species, these hybrids form low, spreading clumps of perennial herbs. Their showy flower heads combine a central disc of tiny florets with a ring of broad rays. Colours include white, cream, yellow, orange, pink, and red, often accented by dark basal markings. The blooms open in sunshine and close in cloudy weather or darkness. Photographed in Florida.
