Gasteria carinata (Keeled Ox-Tongue)
Native to the southern Western Cape of South Africa, this small succulent herb grows among rocky outcrops in renosterveld and fynbos vegetation. Plants spread from the base to form dense groups. Triangular to tongue-shaped leaves have pale spots, often arranged in bands, and may have a pronounced keel beneath. Arching flower stalks carry drooping flowers with swollen pink bases and narrower, pale tubes marked with green. Oblong capsules release small seeds. It can be propagated by division, leaf cuttings or seed. Photographed in Colombia.
