Fuchsia × hybrida
Developed in cultivation, these ornamental shrubs have varied ancestry. Early hybrids probably involved Fuchsia magellanica and Fuchsia fulgens, with other species contributing to later breeding. The group includes upright shrubs and trailing plants, with single or double hanging flowers in combinations of white, pink, red and purple. Cold tolerance varies by cultivar. Cuttings preserve the chosen flower form and color, while seedlings can differ from their parents. Trailing forms are especially useful in hanging baskets. Photographed in Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru.
