Fuchsia vulcanica
Native to southern Colombia and Ecuador, this upright or scrambling shrub grows in Andean cloud forest and low forest near the tree line. Young branches and leaves bear pale hairs. The leaves usually occur in whorls of three or four. Pendant flowers have long scarlet, pink or orange-red tubes, spreading pointed sepals and shorter red petals. The berries turn reddish purple as they ripen. Natural hybrids with Fuchsia ampliata occur where the species meet. Photographed in Colombia.
