A large shrub native to Central America. The flowers, massed in panicles, can grow up to a foot thick, adorning themselves in shades ranging from mauve pink to purple. Cultivated for ornamental purposes in San Franciso and the  Andes. The fruit is edible. Photographed in Bogotá, Colombia.
